56 days when the light shines round the clock from late June to early August
Two degrees above the Arctic Circle
120 virtuoso visual arts and the world of entertainment under the midnight sun
Direct your steps north, above the Arctic Circle, and discover the town of Inuvik, located on the Mackenzie Delta in the Northwest Territories of Canada, to attend the Arts Festival that celebrates the Great North art, music and culture. For over 25 years this summer show held annually for ten days and features the work of 120 painters, sculptors, musicians and Far North First Nations artists from across Canada. Watch a Gwich'in create his own hands indigenous dolls and watching a sculptor of the country give life to a polar bear soapstone woman. Buy an original creation of the North. Hair down to the rhythm of hip-hop Inuit. Sign up for a workshop and do you make earrings of porcupine quills or moose hide moccasins, which are sure to make a splash. Stroll through the streets of Inuvik to see their igloo-shaped church and the mosque's most northerly in the world. Then you can enjoy a meal and traditional land sea (based on char and caribou) before partying the rhythm of rock, throat singing and percussion Far North under the midnight sun, and with all your new mukluks.
